In 1894,
Dr. Keegan retired and Dr. R. Caldecott took over the
charge of Residency Surgeon in the Indore Charitable
Hospital. Earlier in 1885 Dr. Caldecott had been posted
at the Indore Charitable Hospital when Dr. Keegan was on
privilege leave from 9th August to 10th November, 1885.
At that time, he introduced local Anaesthesia in
Ophthalmic Surgery at the Indore Charitable Hospital .
The local Anaesthetic agent was Cocaine.
In 1894
the depreciation of the Rupee and also the imposition of
custom duty strained the resources of the hospital. A
year later the Bohras of Ujjain rebuilt a large row of
hospital buildings.
